What Makes Your Heart Come Alive

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10 NIV “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” PS 46:10 Recently I was listening to a podcast from Ransomed Heart ministries while on a long drive to Dallas, and I was struck by this question: What makes your heart come alive? In the podcast, Craig from Ransomed Heart talks about how at an early age his identity got wrapped up in his ability to perform and tick things off his to do list. Over time this had become death dealing to his heart and He recently realized the need to fight for his heart and find what makes it come alive. We live in a world of constant busyness and turmoil. We have an enemy who has come to steal, kill, and destroy, and he would like nothing more than to steal our joy and kill our hearts. Often we are so busy doing so many good things, that we neglect to do the best thing: commune with our Savior and soak up His joy and peace that we might radiate it to a lost and dying world. On a recent backcountry backpacking trip to the Eagle Cap Wilderness, I had a wonderful afternoon of solo time staring out a crystal blue lake. It took me the first hour to really quiet my mind from the buzz of frenetic activity that is so often a major characteristic of my brain. Once I began to settle down I really started to hear and sense the Spirit speaking life into me. At the end of four hours of reading, praying, and journaling, it felt like I was just getting started. The wilderness setting provides a priceless opportunity to be still and plug into the one true source of life. For me I have found spending time alone in nature with God to consistently be the best way to bring life to my often dry and weary heart. The heart of the universe is at perfect peace. He radiates Joy, Love, and Holiness through the eternal fellowship of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He invites His children to lay aside their worldly burdens and in the stillness fix their gaze upon Him and Him alone, that their hearts might beat in tune with His own and reverberate the matchless strains of the ageless hymn of His glorious Grace. May you regularly find time to connect with His heart so that He may breathe life into yours.
